    Understanding Razor Syntax

Razor is the name of the new view engine in MVC 3. The ASP.NET view engine processes web pages, looking for special elements that contain server-side instructions. As we’ve noted earlier, the standard ASPX view engine relies on the <% and %> elements, which are familiar to all ASP.NET developers.

The Razor syntax is based on the C# programming language, and that's the language that's used most often with ASP.NET Web Pages. However, the Razor syntax also supports the Visual Basic language, and everything you see you can also do in Visual Basic. For details, see the appendix Visual Basic Language and Syntax.

The Razor syntax is a template markup syntax, based on the C# programming language, that enables the programmer to use an HTML construction workflow.
